Pet Sounds Discussion

The music made by the Beach boys prior to "Pet Sounds" was pretting much the wall of sound, which traveled across the american teenage lifestyle like a wild fire. The music they created was not only the california lifestyle music, but it gave all teenagers that weekend lifestyle almost, as they sang about Surfin', burgerstands, sock-hops, hotrods, and nevertheless, pretty california women. Brian wilson, the main songwriter, and focal point for the beachboys, was one of the main reasons the beach boys were created. After being influenced and standing on the shoulders of giants of those before him, he had alot of knowledge and influence on the band, maily with his writing skills on "Catch a wave". Once the Beach Boys decided to write "Pet Sounds", prior to writing the album, Brian spent many hours watching Phil Spector's techniques and how he recorded, which eventually influenced Brian to then write the album "Pet Sounds". The characteristics of Pet Sounds  that set it apart from other popular recordings of the mid 1960's e.g., were the layers of echo on the vocals and the double-tracking of everything , making his songs more elaborate. Furthermore, he had a taste for more exotic instruments like bass harmonicas, Orchordians, and crazy percussions sounds. As a listerner and as an industry professional, Pet Sounds impression on me is definently dramatic as I read, listen, and get more so educated on their background as purely people. Brian wilson is very inspiring as a "go-getter" and innovator in the 1960's changing the sound into something new, while still giving respect to those before him. It's crazy how I can relate to his songs that were written 50+ years ago, which is very impressing.
